LEBANON — One of the leaders on the Lebanon football team knows where they will be continuing their athletic and academic careers.
Senior Nick Finney is heading to DePauw University in the fall to continue his education and football careers.
He had a signing ceremony at the school on Monday.
“This is a dream come true and I’m really excited,” Finney said. “It was definitely my dream college to attend.”
DePauw is a NCAA Division III school that plays in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The team is coached by Brett Dietz. Finney said the school was a good fit for what he was looking for.
“Academically and the campus all around is what I was looking for,” Finney said. “Everything I wanted in a college, they had. I felt really comfortable with the football program and the coaches.”
Finney was second on the Tigers this past season with 70 tackles, including 7.5 for a loss.
He was second on the team with 4.5 sacks and added a fumble recovery and two blocked punts.
Finney collected 188 tackles during his four-year career.
“They liked how physical I am and how I did my job on the field,” Finney said. “The coaches felt like I was the perfect fit, because we play the same defense at our school. They said I was exactly the type of player they were looking for.”
Since the high school season ended, Finney said he has been working out every day to improve speed and strength heading to the next level.
When he looks back at his time at Lebanon, he is going to remember the strong bonds and friendships that he made while being a Tiger.
“I am going to remember the brotherhood and family we have here,” Finney said. “We definitely had a great team culture, and I am going to miss all my friends that I played with.”
Finney plans on studying kinesiology.
